Elevated feeders can help to reduce intestinal gas within your dog.  If your dog is eating in a bent-over position he will be gulping his water or food.  As this is done, more air is naturally swallowed.  This air inevitably develops into gas.  With elevated feeders, less gulping occurs and can help to prevent serious conditions such as bloat.  This is especially common in deep-chested, large breed dogs and is a life threatening condition.

Dogs suffering from mega-esophagus also benefit from the advantages of elevated dog feeders as it helps them to swallow - which is challenging with this condition.  They are also more comfortable for larger, old dogs who suffer from arthritis, have bad backs, or joint or muscular pain.
